My name is Harrison Hamm and this is my basketball newsletter. It’s my attempt at providing shortform, engaging analysis that tells you something that you didn’t know before.
I will provide Xs and Os analysis without sounding like a coach, which is easy for me because I am not a coach! I’m a writer at heart, and I write everything with the goal of appealing to the average fan who doesn’t have time to watch hours of basketball. I hope that this newsletter will keep you updated on the NBA and make the games more fun to watch.
Let me give you a little about me. I’ve been writing about sports for years, primarily about basketball and soccer. I’m currently a basketball writer for TheComeback.com and a soccer writer for High Press Soccer. (Here are a couple of my recent NBA articles.) My Twitter account is @harrisonhamm21.
I wanted a consistent outlet for writing about the NBA, and so this Substack newsletter was born. I’m not a big time writer, and I’m not a former NBA coach or video coordinator. That’s why this is free, so you can try this out and see if it’s something you’d like to read consistently. There is no timetable for switching to a paid model. That means there is no reason not to sign up!
My articles will not be long deep dives clouded with stats and coachspeak. They will be snippets of analysis, put simply so that you can learn more about what’s happening on the court. I’ll provide short clips of what I’m talking about so that you can start your day by watching a little basketball. I want to make the game more fun to follow and watch.
I’ll also end every article with a short rundown of league news, with a sentence or two of context. You can get NBA news anywhere, but here, I’ll give you it all in one place with my own brief thoughts added in. All of this will take you no more than a few minutes to read.
Only Down One is part of a wider sports content initiative that I will be working on with a couple of friends. Our TikTok is coming soon, and one of these days we will start a podcast. We plan on doing things a little differently than the sports content startups you’re used to. I’ll keep you updated on us in this newsletter, so stay tuned.
I hope that you’ll give me a chance and tell your friends! In the meantime, follow me on Twitter and expect a new article tomorrow morning.
